Athletic Journey

Joshua’s love for sports began at a very young age through soccer. Sports gave him confidence, purpose, and a way to connect with others. Although he enjoyed football deeply, competing was challenging due to his physical condition.

Born with a congenital disability involving right hip dislocation and club feet, Joshua often struggled with self-doubt and questioned whether he truly belonged in the competitive sports world. However, instead of allowing those thoughts to discourage him, he turned them into motivation to work harder and improve himself. Watching other athletes, especially persons with greater disabilities excelling in sports, inspired him to keep pushing forward. Above all, the continuous encouragement from his parents reminded him never to despise himself or limit his potential.

In 2023, Joshua began swimming casually on Sunday afternoons together with his siblings as part of a family activity. Over time, swimming became more than recreation. Towards the end of 2024, the family decided to take swimming seriously and pursue competitive training. Encouraged by a pool attendant who recognized their potential, Joshua was introduced to Friends of Water Entebbe Swim Club, where he officially joined in November 2024 and began structured competitive training.

In 2025, Joshua started participating in swimming galas. Competing alongside able-bodied swimmers was not easy at first, but with consistency, confidence, and determination, he steadily improved his performances. One of his greatest improvements has been in the 50m butterfly, where he reduced his time from 1:06.72 during his first competition in January 2025 to 41.12 by May 2026.

His rapid growth in the sport demonstrates not only his talent, but also his discipline and commitment to continuous improvement.

Goals and Aspirations

Joshua dreams of becoming an inspiration to children and young persons with disabilities by proving that disability is not inability. He aims to continue improving his personal best times, raise his international rankings, and proudly represent Uganda at major international competitions.

One of his biggest dreams is to qualify for the Paralympic Games and compete successfully at the highest level of international para swimming.

Leadership and Community Impact

Joshua also demonstrates leadership beyond competition and currently serves as:

  • Team Captain – Friends of Water Swim Club, Entebbe (2025–2026)

Through leadership, encouragement, and his personal journey, he continues to motivate fellow young athletes and promote inclusion through sports.
